THE STORY BEHIND THE ART

This series is a joyful ode to sun-soaked memories and citrus dreams. Inspired by childhood afternoons spent in South Florida with my grandmother—peeling ripe, local, fragrant oranges by the pool—Orangerie blends nostalgia with elegance. While painting these works, I was also transported to the manicured beauty of the gardens at Versailles, where I first learned what an orangerie truly is: a space designed to shelter delicate citrus trees, filled with light, beauty, and intention. With a chilled "Orange Thing" (it's a Birmingham thing) in hand and sunshine in my heart, I painted these pieces to celebrate the sweet simplicity of seasonal fruit, lush gardens, and the warm, golden moments that linger in memory.
