Meet the Artist

Arden Ward Upton is a well-known Southern artist.

After the arrival of her son Wills in 2020, Arden returned to painting for the first time in 20 years. Arden comes from a family of artist on both sides and she derives her inspiration from them. Her great-grandmother Irene Stephenson Ward was a prolific southern oil painter (1898-1976) and she has always admired her work and loves the opportunity to follow in her footsteps.Arden’s keen understanding of light brings a natural feel to her impressionistic style. Much of her art is focused on nature and from sights and scenes she’s experienced in her travels around the world… lemons are inspired from scenes in Tuscany, landscapes from Provence, and rolling hills and lush green meadows from pastural English countryside found in the Berkshires. Specializing in oil-based landscapes, abstracts and botanicals, Arden paints from memory or En Plein Air. Arden lives with her husband William and son Wills at their equestrian estate in Alabama.
