Paint at the Farm: Come Paint With Me on the Porch This Fall
Almost every painting I create begins in the same place: on the porch at Windwood.
Of all the beautiful places on the farm, I honestly think it has the best view.
From my spot on the porch, I can see so much of what is happening around me while still feeling like I have my own little corner of the world. The porch fans are usually turning overhead, the birds are chirping, and the horses are moving through the paddocks in front of me. There is always something to look at, but somehow it is also incredibly peaceful.
It has become such a personal part of my painting process.
I have spent countless hours there with canvases spread out, paint everywhere, music playing or sometimes nothing at all except the sounds of the farm. It is where so many of the paintings you have seen online, in my collections, and hanging in homes were actually made.
This fall, for the first time, I am opening up that space and inviting a small group of you to come paint there with me.
Paint at the Farm
I am hosting three intimate painting mornings at Windwood this fall, right on the porch where I normally work.
These are not meant to feel like formal art classes where everyone is worried about doing something “correctly.” I want them to feel much more like coming over to paint with me for the morning.
We will paint, have mimosas and snacks, talk, laugh, and enjoy the farm.
And yes, you can absolutely come even if you do not consider yourself an artist.
I will walk everyone through the painting step by step and help you along the way. The idea is to leave with something you are proud of, but more importantly, to have a really lovely morning doing something creative in a beautiful setting.
The Fall Dates
I am opening the porch for just three Paint at the Farm dates this fall:
September 22
September 30
October 8
Each class will be held from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Windwood Equestrian.
The groups are intentionally small, with space for only 10 guests, so everyone has room to paint and I have time to work with each person.
Depending on the class, we will paint subjects inspired by the things I love to paint myself, including oranges, orchids, and Paint Your Bubbles, where you bring your own favorite bottle and turn it into a painting.
For the orange class, we will work on an 11 x 14 canvas.
All of your painting supplies will be ready for you when you arrive, along with mimosas and snacks. You really just need to show up ready to spend the morning painting.
Why I Wanted to Do This
I could host a painting class almost anywhere.
But I didn’t want to.
There is something about the porch that feels inseparable from my work now, and I wanted these mornings to feel like an invitation into that part of my life.
You will be sitting where I sit.
You will see the horses I watch while I paint.
You will hear the same birds, feel the porch fans going, look out over the same farm, and hopefully understand a little better why I love working there so much.
There are beautiful spaces at Windwood that most people know from weddings and events, but the porch is different. It is quieter and more personal. It is where normal life happens for me.
And that is exactly why I want to share it.
I think there is something wonderful about stepping away from everything for a few hours and doing something with your hands simply because you enjoy it.
No rushing.
No screens.
No pressure to be good at it.
Just a canvas, a paintbrush, a mimosa, horses in the paddocks, and a morning at the farm.
I cannot think of a better way to welcome fall.
I am only opening the porch for these three dates, and because each group is limited to 10 painters, space is very limited.
