Frank’s Table: Food and Art and the Art of Food

Sep 10, 2025

A number of year ago, I walked into Chez Fon Fon and Bottega with my camera in hand. I thought I was there to only to photograph food, but what I discovered that day was so much more.

Learning about the days menu items, the farmers who supplied the ingredients and so much more!

It struck me that food at its highest level isn’t just about sustenance. It’s an experience and a collaboration. Farmers, delivery drivers, chefs, waitstaff, and finally, friends around the table — all come together to create something unforgettable.

That realization changed the way I see a meal. It isn’t just nourishment. It’s art.

Watching craft cocktails made and wishing I knew how to make them too.

Over time, the experience of that photo shoot developed into a changed perspective. So when Birmingham Restaurant Week invited me to create artwork for the 2025 Restaurant Week, I immediately knew the collection would be based on the memories of great meals and that particular photoshoot.
